A Wiregrass church is deciding to make a difference by bringing awareness to families with special needs.
All families were welcomed to partake in a fun-filled day at the Johnny Henderson Park. The 2nd Annual Wiregrass Community Awareness Day included lots of activities from bull riding to a petting zoo. Program organizers say that today's event was an opportunity for Wiregrass residents to support each other.
"People do not realize exactly how many people that have special needs
are in the community, some special needs are upfront and in your face and you can see it.
Other special needs aren't and so we're just trying to raise awareness so that everyone feels
Comfortable," said Sarah Sasser, a community day organizer.
Today's awareness day lasted from 10 am to 2 pm. It was also sponsored by "In His Image", a special needs support group in the Graceplace Church.
