NEW YORK (AP) -- The historic chapel whose graveyard overlooks the World Trade Center site has commemorated the terror attacks it survived eleven years ago.
After the twin towers fell, St. Paul's Chapel became known as "the little chapel that stood." It served as a refuge for rescue workers for months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
On Tuesday, it hosted a reunion for dozens of volunteers who helped feed and comfort the workers who searched for human remains at ground zero. Anniversary prayers for peace were offered.
The day also included the ringing of the Bell of Hope, a gift from London to New York City in 2002.
The chapel remains a source of consolation and inspiration for many New Yorkers and visitors.
