LaPLACE, La. (AP) -- President Barack Obama says church volunteers have been helping victims of Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana.
Obama met with residents Monday in hard-hit St. John the Baptist Parish, 30 miles outside of New Orleans.
He said officials from all levels of government will do everything they can to assess the damage and figure out how to help.
But he also praised an unnamed church group that stripped the damaged interior out of a flooded home. Obama said the church volunteers did it without being asked, or paid, because "they care about their neighbors."
Obama visited the hurricane zone on the eve of the Democratic National Convention and three days after Republican rival Mitt Romney.
