JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) -- A Jewish organization says it will "vigorously" fight a lawsuit by four gay men who said it fraudulently promised to make them straight.

The four attended sessions at the Jersey City-based Jews Offering New Alternatives to Healing, or JONAH. Their lawsuit says the methods to change people's orientation don't work and should not be marketed under New Jersey's consumer protection laws.

In a statement Wednesday, JONAH says, "The lawsuit is without merit, and is designed to create a chilling effect upon speech and programs that assist people in overcoming unwanted same-sex attractions."

The statement says its therapies and those of similar programs have helped thousands of people "shed" those attractions and should remain available to those who want to change their orientation.
