TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Republicans at their national convention are hearing prayers led by a Jewish rabbi, an Hispanic evangelical, the president of a Sikh temple, a Greek Orthodox archbishop, a Mormon friend of Mitt Romney and a Roman Catholic cardinal.
Tuesday's benediction was delivered by the Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference. He said America stands on "a simple principle: God over man and man over government."
He said the assembled Republicans believe that "God is not done with America, and America is not done with God."
Wednesday's invocation was delivered by Ishwar Singh, president of the Sikh Society of Central Florida.
Tonight's closing prayer will be led by New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Dolan also has accepted an invitation to pray at the Democratic National Convention.
