CHARLOTTE (AP) -- The president of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition has asked God to unite Americans this election year.
The Rev. Gabriel Salguero prayed the invocation on the final day of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, but his prayer crossed party lines.
Salguero asked God to "help us all -- Republicans, independents and Democrats -- never to tire in the work of justice and mercy."
He also prayed that Americans won't stray too far from God's will "as we walk into the autumn of elections."
Echoing President Barack Obama's campaign slogan -- "Forward" -- Salguero said, "We pledge to move forward in faith."
