MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The annual Holy Week celebration of the
Church of God in Christ will remain in St. Louis through at least
The assembly that convened in Memphis for 102 years moved to St.
Louis in 2010. The Commercial Appeal reports that it's the largest
convention in either city. More than 35,000 people attend the meetings.
Memphis Bishop Brandon Porter said Memphis couldn't accommodate the denomination's convention needs in 2013 and St. Louis agreed to ensure the dates needed.
Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton met with church leaders and said the
city will continue its efforts to bring the convention back to Memphis, where the denomination is based.
