SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A California ministry says the world will end today.
Harold Camping of Family Radio International previously predicted that the rapture would take true Christians to heaven on May 21.
His followers were crestfallen when they woke up on Earth the next day, especially those who had quit their jobs or donated their savings for the thousands of billboards plastered with the Judgment Day message.
The 90-year-old Camping then explained that God's judgment and
salvation were completed on May 21, and that the unsaved would
surely "be annihilated together with the whole physical world on Oct. 21."
Camping suffered a mild stroke in June, but has continued to spread his doomsday message on the ministry's website.
