WASHINGTON (AP) -- Religious rights advocates report growing hostility toward Christianity in Europe.
At a briefing in Washington, attorney Roger Kiska of the Alliance Defending Freedom said European courts and governments increasingly prohibit Christians from practicing the principles of their faith at work.
Oxford University's Roger Trigg told the U.S. Helsinki Commission that in Britain today, "Human rights are pitted against religion, and freedom of religion is itself being marginalized as a right."
Georgetown University Religion Professor Thomas Farr said the marginalization of Christianity also is growing in the United States and is part of "a worldwide crisis of religious liberty" that threatens democracy.
Trigg said today's trends undermine the foundational premise that "God has given us free will, and we are all equal in God's sight."
