This event was a vision just 4 short years ago to create a winter wonderland in downtown Andalusia with 3 main goals: tourism, retail stimulation and community involvement (quality of place). Beginning with a small snow village on the square, the event has grown to 2 venues complete with light and snow shows, a replica steam locomotive trackless train, ice-skating rink, enormous 150 ft. polar bear snow tubing slide, and 24 imaginative play custom cottages.
This event brought roughly 30,000 people to the downtown area of Andalusia in December of last year, many of which came across county and state lines. During this event, our tax revenue base increased over the previous period by over $600,000 and some stores even reported record sales. Most importantly, our community has taken pride in the event and found a new reason to be proud of the place we all cherish and call home.
Andalusia was named Top Small Town in the South for Christmas by SouthernLiving.com, the event was awarded #1 Parks and Rec. Event for 2016 by the Alabama State Parks and Recreation Association, and Absolutely Alabama, a state-wide syndicated show, filmed their 1-hour Christmas Special on site at Candyland last year.
Local Businesses show off their creativity and community involvement by participating in creating the playhouses or"C-ANDY-Land Cottages". Communities, employees, families, all come together when they have a project to work on together. The creation of the cottages foster team building and provide a way to show the community that they care. We currently have 24 amazing playhouses showcasing many different industries and organizations.
The first snow flurry will kick off December 1st, and will continue every weekend in December concluding with one final demonstration as the Domino Drops on New Year’s Eve. Candyland on the Square is located in the center of Court Square and is home to a cottage village, the snow and light shows, and appearances by Santa Claus in the enchanted sleigh. Springdale on Ice is located 4 blocks East down E. Three Notch Street at the Springdale Estate and city park. Springdale on Ice boasts train rides, ice skating, snow tubing, another cottage village, along with special live performances. Hot Cocoa and Characters will be held on December 16th at Springdale this year, and children can expect visits from some of their favorite characters like Minnie and Mickey, Elsa and Olaf, Santa Claus and many more. Visit www.christmasincandyland.com for a full schedule and more information about the special events occurring at Candyland.
There are no admission fees for Candyland. This is a free event and is open to the public. Ice skate rentals are $5 per hour and 5 trips down the Polar Bear Tubing Hill will only cost $5. Train rides are also free.

I actually called Childrens Hospital in Birmingham and asked to volunteer during the holidays and was told about the Sugar Plum Shop and how it would benefit the kids and parents that were there through the holidays
The Sugar Plum Shop is basically a toy store built inside the hospital from the donations received to the hospital. It allows the parents of any child that is sick or in the hospital during the holidays to shop for them without leaving the hospital and for any siblings they may have also so they can remain close to each other during Christmas and they also do the same throughout the year if they are in the hospital during their birthday
The City of Troy and surrounding areas have really came together over the years to make this a success and have jumped on board without hesitation. I work with a great group of guys and am honored to be a part of something to bring so many smiles to the faces of kids that are unfortunate to be at home during the holidays.
