Why "The Write Choice?" Simply because, outside of the newsroom, I'm a writer that strings words together, in a way that will either make readers laugh, cry, smile, or more importantly-think!My journey as a self-publishing writer began in 2011 but my love for writing began when I was a child, surrounding myself with books and notebooks galore.
After realizing that my words could help others, I decided to publish my first poetry book titled, "Her Poetic Cinema of Life." The book contains 50 poems of life and all other musings that any reader or writer can relate to. Since most of my poetry, were written in journals I decided to give readers an added bonus with pages to use as a journal at the end of the book. Throughout the experience, I learned valuable information of marketing, design, and etc. Being a college student at the time of publishing didn't stop me from achieving my goal. I've always been a self-motivated individual, so I was determined to get the job done. One of the best things about self-publishing is you follow your own rules and create your own brand. I was able to create a logo known as "Lyrically Spoken Publishing" to brand all of my future material under and future writers. Following publishing, I was able to conduct an english forum for Troy University's English Department.
To continue my journey as a first-time author I was also eager to share my words in 2012 with a booksigning and poetry reading at The Village Gallery in Montgomery, Ala.
Since writing is my art of joy, I always find time for it. No one wants to wake up and find a gift they've been blessed with, suddenly gone. Right? With that said, I continued my journey searching for more opportunities to share my words and utilize my writing in other outlets, as a freelance writer for sites of interest or my own personal blog.
In 2013, I announced the title of my next book, "Silence the Cycle" and I also released the front cover via Facebook. The soon to be released book is a novel, surrounding domestic violence. While strategizing and planning for another book, I started a blog that is very dear to me titled, "Memoirs of a Virtuous Woman." (which also sounds like the makings of another book, hint-hint) Its a faith-based blog with a goal of guiding young women on the narrow path. If you're interested in following that blog, you're encouraged to follow the link below:
And here we are in 2014...
....and I have more to give to anyone that reads my words. Since moving to Dothan, I've given words of wisdom as a guest speaker to the youth of The Southeast Alabama Diversion Center and I've recently been invited to speak and share my poetry at an event for a local non-profit organization, "Be U: Beautifully Unique." Of course I'm excited about that but my main excitement so far this year, is doing something that I've always wanted to do-teaching creative writing workshops! I was recently given this opportunity by Girls Inc. of Dothan. This summer, every two weeks, I'll be conducting these workshops for Girls Inc.'s summer program. The workshops will be available for girls in the 4th-8th grade. Creative writing is proven to help with test scores, cut down on bullying, and simply raise our literacy rates. I'm excited to share words of wisdom to these girls through short stories whether fiction or nonfiction and challenge them to different areas of poetry. I hope you all will keep your eyes peeled when I start these workshops and more of my literary endeavors to inspire you and the next generation of writers.
