So, who's still on the global warming bandwagon now? I've always been a skeptic when it comes to "studies" about recent global warming philosophies, mainly because I believe they are far more politically fueled than are coming around as a general concern for our planet. If there is more research being done, that means there are more people doing the research, which means as result, more jobs and ultimately more money..somewhere. Right Al? While I probably drive my car too much, and use too much water, when it comes to man causing irreversable and catastrophic damage to our ozone layer, which as result is warming our atmosphere, I don't buy it. People tend to forget how old earth is in the grand scheme of things. Human life is a bat of an eyelash in comparison to the life of planet earth. We did have a stretch of record breaking heat in the summer of 2009, but then, when was the last time you remember widespread snow accumulation, less than a 100 miles to the mild gulf coast of Mexico? Numerous folks here in Alabama have told me they can't recall when it was this cold, for this long....remember those teens back in early January? The average human life span is about 78 years. If you go back 5 generations that will send you back to the 1600's, a time long before we had millions of world-wide sensors recording minute to minute weather observations. We didn't know then precisely how much snow was in the Artic Circle, so how can we say with confidence that there was more ice then, than now? The world is much older than we have records of, and has weather patterns we know are longer than even multiple human lifespans. When people say they believe Hurricanes are getting stronger because we've seen more Category 5 storms, how do you explain this past year's sleepy El Nino summer? It's part of a cycle. It will continue, it will intensify, and it will slacken, and it may take longer than your life, or your entire family's for this to happen. On that note I'll leave you with a few stats to think about. Orlando had it's coldest day in Febuary in 50 years at 35 degrees. It is also their 8th coldest winter ever recorded. New Orleans has had their wettest winter on record. This Febuary has been Cincinnati, Ohio's snowiest since 1914. Lake Eerie is currently more than 98% frozen. On Monday alow temperature of -14 degrees in Casper, Wyo., Sunday broke the record of -13 degrees from 1978.....I think you get the point.. Always ask questions. Always form your own opinions, and always, enjoy the weather ;) |
