One of my production crew came up to me today with his cell phone in hand and said, "Martha, I understand most of these weather text alerts, but what in the world is "Fire Weather Threat"? Well, he was referring to was an alert he received to his cell that The National Weather Service puts out. Red flag warnings are generally not directed towards the general public, but more so for land managers, fire fighters, and those working for the forestry service. To the general Joe Somebody, it means basically a day of low humidity! It means if a fire were to start, it would ignite very easily. During droughts, fire departments will show a level of threat from low, medium, high, & extreme. We generally see Red Flag advisories 36-48 hours after a cold front moves through.
