After a rollercoaster month of October, we begin November with welcomed calm, benign weather across much of the country. After the heavy rain in the middle of the country, snow storms in the rockies and severe weather in the southern plains, it will be nice to have some solid days of calm, mild weather. Average lows for the month of November here in southeast Alabama are around the mid to upper 40's, highs low 70's...which is exactly what we are on tap for for at least another five days..not to mention, low humidity. By mid-week a dry cold front arrives and delivers us a re-enforcing shot of dry air, and possibly a little cooler start to Thursday and Friday.

Long range models are suggesting possible tropical or extra-tropical development late in the week near Mexico. This looks to be our next shot for potential moisture and showers by sometime early next week, but not a significant chance. The Alabama Agriculture Commissioner released a statement saying the heavy rain of early summer, and recently has done substantial damage to Alabama crops, notably: cotton, corn, soybeans and of course the peanut.  So, at least a seven to nine day stretch of dry air should help crops...at least a little.

The coldest temperature reached in Dothan during the month of October was 37 degrees, which set a new record low by one degree on October 19t, but the day before we tied the low at 39. Two weeks before that we had our warmest day at 91 degrees. 4.95" of rain was recorded at the Dothan Regional Airport, however numerous viewers sent reports anywhere from 5-7" of rain..on the 27th of October at least one fifth to one quarter of the total months rain fell, which likely hurt a lot of crop harvests.

Mid-month we had one of the most incredible lightning events I can ever remember seeing in the Wiregrass. It continued for at least four hours with hundreds to even thousands of strikes per hour. Pretty incredible stuff I think.

As we enter November it will gradually get colder, but lets hope the emphasis in that sentence is on "gradual". This week is a perfect way to start, and not to mention just in time for a fantastic peanut festival forecast.

Tonight is our full moon, actually it is technically full at 2:14 pm. It is known as the Beaver Moon. It will be very visible with a clear night ahead. My intuition tells me this may be Connor's Weather Wise question this evening.. you never know.
