I don't have very much time to blog today, and have been swamped in news reporting...but I wanted to at least leave some information for you to learn more about tropical storm and hurricane forecasting, a topic I know greatly interests myself and many others. Hurricane Reconnaisance missions are not sent into storms until they are within a few hundred miles of a developing system, so where do we get our estimates from when storms are still thousands of miles away? We can certainly pick up rotation, cloud temperatures (which give estimates of heights) and direction by satellite and infrared imagery, but there are a few clues that have been consistent over many years that have given us another way to make predictions...called the Dvorak Technique.
