Bulldog Nation: Be Alert That Fridays Will Be Intense This Fall

After speaking with the new head coach of the Pike County Bulldogs, one thing became evident. The Dogs are strong, and the Dogs are hungry.

That is something that all teams in 3A football across the state should go ahead and post on a bulletin board.

The feeling in Brundidge these days is similar to when Wayne Grant was bussing state championship teams to the Super 6 on a regular basis.

It is early, but that's the feeling.

Pike County has had four head coaches in four years if you include Wayne Grant.

Grant built the program into prominence, and then he moved on to other ventures.

Then came Brad Waggoner who left after one season in 2008. He went 5-5, and was ousted in round one of the playoffs by Luverne.

Then came Eddie Stephenson who left after one year in 2009. Stephenson posted good results on the field with a 9-0 regular season record. He too was knocked off in the playoffs by Luverne

2010. Same story. Different coach. Robert Johnson went to coach the Bulldogs from his former post at Carroll High School in Ozark. The Dogs went 5-5 with a first round playoff loss, and Johnson left town.

There's a new head Dog in town now in Brundidge.

His name is Rodney Dollar.

Why should Bulldog fans buy in with what Dollar has to offer.

Simple. He wins, and he is committed.

Let's take a walk through his career. He came to Houston Academy in 1999, and took the Raiders from a one-win team to eventually becoming a one-loss team.

Houston Academy posted a 1-8 record in his first season. In 2000 the Raiders won three games. In eight seasons with the Raiders, he finished with double-digit win columns four times. He did that with a team that won four games in two years prior to his arrival.

The story was the same when he headed north for Tallassee. Dollar took the Tigers from less than mediocre to region champions in less than four years.

He's all in for the Bulldog nation. He has moved his family to the Brundidge area, and he is glad to be back in the area he calls home.

Rodney Dollar loves the Wiregrass, and Rodney Dollar loves to win.

Those two factors live harmoniously in Brundidge.
