BCS Championship—Day 1 @ 9am
by Jason Wright
Day 1 of the BCS National Championship coverage for WTVY has been fun so far. At 9am, Kim Allen Ben Stanfield and myself received our BCS Media Credentials.
I feel like we are three out of five million people here. There are media outlets from all over the state of Alabama and another large group for LSU.
At 9am, offensive coordinator Jim McElwain, Marquis Maze, Barrett Jones, A.J. McCarron, William Vlachos, and Trent Richardson addressed the media.
The payers spoke highly of coach Nick Saban and how he motivates them and also coaches them for the issues that life will bring later down the road. They said that playing for him is something that they will never forget.
McElwain will be leaving the Tide after the BCS game to take over as the head coach at Colorado State. He said that Saban has helped him through the entire process because he did the same thing earlier in his coaching career.
This will be Alabama’s second run at a national title in the last three season. The players say that it is an honor but it is also a challenge in this particular game. Alabama is the underdog in this contest with LSU and it is in LSU’s own backyard in the Louisiana Superdome.
Trent Richardson said that he visited Bourbon Street and it was something like he had never seen before. He said that Tuscaloosa has a strip but nothing like that.
That is all from the morning presser. LSU will take the podium at 12:30 this afternoon.
We will be back later.
