McDonald's in Sweden?

Nothing like a little taste of home to help quell feeling homesick.

The weekend is coming to a close. Tomorrow the team is off to a new city and to meet a new group of wonderful people.

This is the first weekend I've had to myself since we landed so you better believe I made the most of it. Today I slept in until after 10 A.M. It wasn't difficult since it was pouring outside and very cloudy. I woke up to an alarm clock that I did not set at 7 in the morning! I didn't take that as a sign that God wanted me up and about, but rather rolled over for a few more hours of sleep. I watched a bit of TV before getting ready to head upstairs for lunch (I skipped breakfast since I needed more sleep :) ) I enjoyed a bowl of soup, piece of chicken smothered in a mushroom sauce and of course- a bottle of coke!

After a good meal another member of the GSE team, Brandon, and myself headed into the city. We shopped at a few malls. I picked up a bottle of self-tanning lotion. You see, I am well aware that while I'm over here in what feels like a winter climate you guys are at home basking in the sun. I am not in the least bit interested in returning home to the Wiregrass only to earn the nickname “Caspar.” Don't judge me for this very superficial purchase- I just want a little glow :)

Brandon and I then stopped by a cafe for a piece of cake and hot tea. This is a little treat enjoyed by Swedish people about twice a day, everyday. It's called Fika, pronounced 'Fee-kha' and I love it! Today I had carrot cake and Earl Grey tea- yummy.

Then we hit the bowling alley where I scored about a 70...somethings don't change even in another country. We wrapped up the evening with a visit to McDonald's. I know, here I am in another country and surely there's something here I need to try but after two weeks of foreign food a good ol' fashioned Mickey D's was in order. I ordered my first hamburger from there in more than 6 years. I went all out, a quarter pounder with cheese and extra ketchup fries and....you'll never guess....a coke! Yes, today I splurged and enjoyed two. So now it's time to crawl in bed and prepare for another activity-packed week ahead. Nearing the point of feeling homesick- but I just keep thinking only 3 weeks and I'll be home. Dorothy was right, there's no place like home.
