What a crazy trip so far. I left Montgomery, Saturday afternoon and landed in Sweden late Sunday afternoon. So much traveling has left me exhausted. In the process I've managed to lose my mp3 player with my favorite Taylor Swift album on it, but aside from that I landed in one piece.
Sunday night I stayed with a very wonderful couple. Their two children are amazing. Their 9-year-old daughter plays piano well and is a great gymnast. She studies the sport 4 times a week for 3 hours each session. The family's home had a built-in sauna, which is not running at the time but which I would have loved to hop into after this trip. Can you imagine having a sauna inside your home? So cool!
The major event of the night happened when I plugged my hairdryer into the wall. I did use a converter- but apparently something was wrong because I'm pretty sure blue sparks are NOT supposed to fly out when you plug something in. The family rushed over to come to my rescue. The man of the house (Hans) is an electrical engineer and was able to explain what happened and fix it. He saved my hairdryer, and for that I will always be thankful. His wife, Pia, cooked a great salmon dinner for us to wind down the evening.
This morning I woke up at 9 a.m., which is 2 o'clock Dothan time. I am definitely not adjusted to the time difference yet. I woke up with a very sick stomach. After managing to repack my suitcase for the next family stay, I sipped on some tea in hopes of getting some relief. We headed to the Rotary meeting bright and early to give our presentation on Alabama to the group. My stomach was still not feeling well and one of the Rotarians said she had just the thing to fix me up. She arrived back minutes later with a shot glass full of liquor. You know what they say, when in Sweden....down went the shot, but still no relief. After the presenation they allowed my to rest for 2 hours while the group toured the city. I missed seeing the city, but so badly needed to rest.
Now I'm sitting in my teammates lodge writing this blog and waiting for dinner. They say they are going to prepare a traditional Swedish meal- hope it's fantastic!
