Government officials in Venezuela have reportedly banned the popular animated adult series “Family Guy.” Several media organizations are even saying TV networks will be fined if they do not remove the show from their airwaves. The region's Justice Minister, Tareck El Aissami, apparently claimed that the US animated show advocates drug use, in a recent article in the local publication Contactmusic. Specifically, the government cited an episode which, they say, shows the characters advocating illegal drug use. In response authorities announced September 24th, that they would fine networks who continue to run the Seth MacFarlane series.
In the U.S., incidentally, it was reported that the Fox network decided not to air an episode of the program, deemed “controversial” because it discussed abortion.
So what do you think? Does the series go too far? Will you still watch? Should episodes be screened for certain topics? What about fines for airing?
