Government officials in Venezuela have reportedly banned the popular animated adult series “Family Guy.” Several media organizations are even saying TV networks will be fined if they do not remove the show from their airwaves.

The region's Justice Minister, Tareck El Aissami, apparently claimed that the US animated show advocates drug use, in a recent article in the local publication Contactmusic. Specifically, the government cited an episode which, they say, shows the characters advocating illegal drug use. In response authorities announced September 24th, that they would fine networks who continue to run the Seth MacFarlane series.

In the U.S., incidentally, it was reported that the Fox network decided not to air an episode of the program, deemed “controversial” because it discussed abortion.

So what do you think? Does the series go too far? Will you still watch? Should episodes be screened for certain topics? What about fines for airing?

Family guy is one of the funniest remaining tv shows. People who find it offensive and inappropriate...yeah just pick up the ole channel changer and you know the rest.

You all do know that this story is about the show being banned in Venezuela, right? Why are there references to our Constitution, the ACLU, or liberals? Some of you are way too wrapped up in the political arena.

Freedom of Speech - does this group of words mean that I can say anything? Or does it limit me to what a judge or the supreme court determines is not offensive. I suggest that we don't have freedom of speech unless we agree to acquiesce to the ACLU or liberal advocates. I further suggest that adult shows are just that – adult shows. That means that responsible people need to find a way to limit access to material not intended for viewing by non-adults. Benign methods such as “little black boxes” in the upper left hand corner do nothing but to entice youth to watch. That to me is a means of entrapment on the part of Hollywood to get kids to watch. Doesn't anyone read history anymore???

No the show shouldn't be banned! It has the audience rating clearly at the top. Drugs are bad mmkay...but, it's by far no worse of a show than anything else on t.v. Just turn on FX some time and watch the series that play throughout the week. I love Rescue Me, but I hate that my kids can't watch it with me because it's basically softcore pornography. Most shows on FX and many others plainly show people having sex, homosexual influences, DRUG USE, and cursing. If you want Family Guy gone, you should be fighting for much more to be gone as well! I understand that it is a cartoon and attracts children, but once again-LOOK AT THE RATING IN THE TOP LEFT CORNER (LITTLE BLACK BOX)! If you think the show is not suitable, DON'T WATCH IT!

I personally am a big fan of the show, and I think that it is crazy to ban this show. It is FICTIONAL!! People need to stop taking stupid stuff so serious. Its just a tv show, an ADULT tv show. You can't expect them to have episodes about puppies & what the letter of the day is. It is based on adults and has adult themed episodes. I think its silly for someone to take this so personal.

What happened with "freedom of speech"? No, I don't think that Family Guy went to far and yes I will still watch it! I can't wait for the new season!
