OK... I've noticed plenty of bloggers talking about all the uproar over President Barack Obama's speech to the nation's schoolchildren. It's scheduled for Tuesday... so I'd thought I'd chime in.

But some Republicans and conservative talk show hosts, last week, began attacking arrangements for the speech. That led to efforts by parents across the country to keep school districts from airing the speech. Some claiming the President would use the opportunity to push his healthcare agenda. I've even seen reports where some claimed the President would be "brainwashing our children." I've heard arguments from both sides as to why they would or would not support airing the speech to our school children.

The White House today released the remarks the President will be making for this "Back to School Event."  I've read over it and I find nothing to indicate a "brainwashing" or a push for Mr. Obama's Health Care Reform agenda. In my humble opinion the uproar was really much to do about nothing. What do you think?

You can check out the remarks at www.whitehouse.gov.

The reason most people are upset is the fact parents were not given an option of whether they wanted their child to listen to the speech. Initially, it was a forced issue. This had nothing to do with race! What the government has said in the past is we cannot force kids to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, we cannot force kids to offer thanks before a meal, but today WE WILL force them to listen to a speech from Obama.

Why is it that other presidents were able to speek to public school children and pres. Obama wasn't? This country is full of racist people, not all are from the south. The president should have cut all fed funds from every school that didn't show the speech. How can we change other countries when we're in worst shape than any of them.

It is frightening to know our society is so mixed up. Is is really so terrible that the President wants to speak to our children and try and convince them to stay in school. We need to work together as a people to hold this nation together. Have we forgotten that there are more important issues to worry about. The terrorists are looking in at us, watching, and planning. Should we be protecting our children from this type of danger instead of protecting our children to hate the president. I believe that we are in deep need of praying to our God for guidance that we may live together in peace. Think about it. May God be with all of us.

All these "ism" words being used. The one thing that has alot of people blind is the fact that we as a people need to come together and stand by our President Obama because change is here and it seems as if alot of people do not want to change. We are to be "one nation under God" but that is not the case here. I understand we have the right to voice our opinion but we need to respect the position he is in and that should be the case with all people that are in a position of control. We are to pray for them that they will make Godly decisions and not decisions of man. God Bless!

I think this backlash is frightening. Nobody ever accused Reagan and G.H.W.Bush of brainwashing children when they spoke to students, and nobody made any accusations before they even knew what was to be said. People are afraid of socialism? What about Fascism? That's exactly what happens when one side claims it is absolutely right and tries to control any opposition. We need to be teaching kids how to understand how our government works, not how to break it down. It's appalling that anyone in our own country would promote this large-scale boycott of remarks by the President of the United States.
