National Night Out Against Crime

Information about National Night Out observance in Dothan

      Excitement is growing about the city of Dothan's National Night Out  2009. It's scheduled for August 4th at the Dothan Civic Center beginning at 4 pm. There are so many benefits to this national program which had some impressive numbers from last year's events. I took the liberty to check the national website and found the following:

    Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2008.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti crime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

     Those participating in this year's event in Dothan range from businesses in our community to civic organizations and law enforcement. WTVY News 4 On-Air personalities will also be on hand. I hope to see you there.

    After you check out the National Night Out... come back to this blog and let me know what you think about it.
