Last weekend, I went to a producer workshop with three coworkers. It was 24-hours of intense lessons on the best practices of my trade.
The guy who led the workshop analyzes the industry, and some of the statistics he passed along to us weren't surprising, others weren't what I expected.
For instance, I learned that the average viewer only watches two newscasts a week. That blew my mind!
I also learned that 55% of people who visit our website aren't actually on their computer. Instead, you guys are on your smartphone or tablet. Additionally, 60% of you are on your smartphone or tablet while you're watching t.v.
Probably the biggest head turner was this - apparently you guys don't like flow. What I mean by flow is how each story builds upon the previous and leads into the next. You'd rather see the important stuff first, regardless of it it goes along with the stories around it.
That's something I'm going to start working on immediately. It will be tough, but as I've pointed out before, it's all about what you guys want.
