New cities open up a wealth of new places to explore.

And if you are like me that means new shopping!  As soon as I drove through Dothan I knew I was going to have to take a Saturday to grab coffee and explore all the new stores.

That Saturday finally came last week. I woke up early and grabbed my purse. It was time to go exploring. First stop was coffee and then some pit stops. Several in fact-I didn’t get home until later in the evening but wow was it fun.

ROSS – This place is a gem. I had one close by when I lived in Oregon and I have no idea how much of my hard earned cash went into this establishment. When I moved to Iowa-to my biggest dismay there was no Ross. I don’t think it’s a Midwest thing as growing up in Minnesota I never saw one either. Need a dress on a budget? Ross is the place to go! I walked in the store and it was like all sorts of old memories flooded over me.  Oh and the home décor section is awesome too. I bought the cutest table there!

PUBLIX- Is this even real? Did I imagine it? Did I really walk into a grocery store that looked like it came straight out of a fairy tale? I could almost hear the harp playing in my head as I walked in. They must spend hours making that place look so clean and neat daily. It’s well lit and nothing seems to be out of place. Oh and they even serve coffee to all customers and coupons are already on the keypad. I love the selection here and everyone was so friendly. I still think maybe I dreamed it. Oh and everyone keeps telling me to try a Publix sub.

DAKOTA COFFEE—A big, huge thank you to Devon Sellers for telling me about this place. I was extremely worried that I would not find a local coffee shop here to get my java fix. Dakota coffee is perfect. The coffee was the perfect brew and they have a drive thru! I was going to Starbucks this whole time (which I also love) and had no idea there were other options. I will certainly be going back to Dakota and I heard they sell locally grown honey.

Other places I want to try? La Parilla Mexican Restaurant, Mrs. Boomers on a night they have live music and other local boutique places..

There are a few places I miss that Dothan doesn’t have including Trader Joe’s and Old Chicago restaurant but I really love the places I have found so far. Cannot wait to keep checking out new spots.

SO now it's your turn. What are your favorite places to eat and shop in Dothan and the surrounding areas? Please help this newbie out!
