Family Ties

For the first time in my career I live close to family. When I got the job in Dothan my parents could barely pronounce it but they quickly recognized the name as a place we had visited before. Many years ago when my little brother was just a baby-we came through Dothan on our way to Florida. We apparently stopped and stayed with my mom’s cousin who lived here. I don’t even remember it.

So weeks before I moved here my mom got on the phone to catch up with her cousin’s that she had not spoken to in years. They were very excited to have me in the area and so was I.

What a small world it is!

Two of my mom’s cousins live here with their families.

The first time I went over for dinner it was of course a little awkward but quickly became like we had known each other for years. They are WONDERFUL people. Each Friday and Saturday they cook a mess of Pakistani food and we all sit down for a delicious dinner. I try to go as often as I can. It’s a little slice of home being so far away. They share tales of my now deceased Grandmother and Aunt and we laugh and joke about so many things. They are amazing cooks and I love being able to eat Pakistani food so far away!

I am so blessed to have them here. If I ever run into trouble I know I can call them for help or advice. They are even my emergency contacts here!

They own a few small businesses in the area and I love stopping by to see them when I can. Who knew that I would go from Alaska to Oregon to Iowa and now Dothan where I have family?
