Dr. Latoya Torrence graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. She completed her residency at the University of Florida in Pensacola at Sacred Heart Hospital, and joined Obstetrics & Gynecology of Dothan in August 2004. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
She joined Obstetrics and Gynecology of Dothan in August 2004, where she has dedicated the past 8 years to practicing complete and comprehensive medicine in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “It is an honor to help women make informed health decisions to ensure longevity for themselves as well as their families,” Dr. Torrence adds. A native of Dothan, Latoya values the opportunity and especially feels privileged to be able to give back to and serve her community. Dr. Torrence is especially proud to have established “The Mother-Daughter Girl Talk” for the Wiregrass area, an event that Obstetrics & Gynecology of Dothan sponsors annually. “It is a fun but educational service given to help young adolescent girls better understand their female anatomy and its natural biologic processes. The event also facilitates an open dialogue between young preteens and their mothers, which helps to navigate the many social complexities and dynamics of growing up,” she says.
Latoya loves to deliver babies, but the most rewarding aspect of her field is the patient-doctor relationship established with families. “I am honored to care for several generations in the same family! I am thrilled to care for the mothers, daughters, and grandmothers in several families. Ensuring their health is my top priority, but taking the time to applaud a patient’s personal achievements through the years and or helping them through difficult life transitions is a bond I hold very dear,” Latoya notes.
“It is so rewarding to direct a patient through a difficult gynecologic problem which may or may not require a surgical answer, or to assist an anxious couple with a high risk pregnancy to a successful outcome. That is what life is all about, using your skills to help enrich the lives of others,” she explains.
Latoya stays busy by raising a young family with her husband. She enjoys spending time with them. She loves sports, reading, and the casual delights of summer, which includes relaxing at the beach.
