Sixty students across the Wiregrass are set to receive Congressional awards Saturday.

It's part of the Wiregrass Black History Student Awards program.

Each student was nominated by a teacher based on academics, volunteer hours, and athleticism.

Organizers say it’s important to encourage and recognize youth.

"I'm not a parent of anyone, but it’s just that meaning, that touch, that feeling that drive, you get when you help someone go to another level," said awards founder Anita Dawkins.

NFL Indianapolis Colts player Mario Addison will be the guest speaker.

The event is free to the public this Saturday at 2:00pm at Dothan High School.
