Along with doing their regular duties police officers in Dothan also have the option to work in the community when they're off-duty.
Businesses in Dothan who would like police presence, can hire an officer to direct traffic or stay in the area to discourage crime.
For many officers, it’s a privilege to do this job.
Officers do charge an hourly fee and are allowed to bring a police vehicle.

"Churches request us to asset them on Sundays or during serves outside in their parking lots, helping people cross the street. Being there as a presence as a law enforcement officer with our police car." Dothan Police Sergeant Frank Reeves said.

Sergeant Reeves says especially in these tough economic times, it helps officers make some extra money for their families.
