Henry County residents said farewell to their school superintendent.

Thursday, was Dennis Coe’s last day in the office.

He announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking reelection.

Coe will start his new job as support programs coordinator with the Alabama Department of Education next week.

“I’m honored and humbled at the same time to accept the responsibilities. This is home. We’ve got family and friends here, but this is where Didi and felt the good lord was leading us to be,” says Coe.

His last official day as superintendent will be March 1st.

The assistant superintendent, Lesa Knowles, has been named the interim superintendent.
