MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A Washington-based prosecution team is trying to appeal to the local jury pool, during the second day of jury selection in Alabama's gambling corruption retrial.

Prosecutor Edward T. Kang slipped a "y'all" into his speech and used a story about Alabama Crimson Tide football when explaining different types of evidence to a pool of almost 30 potential jurors.

Kang earlier had asked whether the pool of local Alabamans had any problem with out-of-towners trying the case.

Attorneys estimate they could pick a dozen jurors Thursday or Friday.

The defendants on trial are casino owner Milton McGregor, Sen. Harri Anne Smith, former Sens. Larry Means and Jim Preuitt, casino lobbyist Tom Coker, and casino spokesman Jay Walker.

They are accused of buying and selling votes for pro-gambling legislation.
