FOLEY, Ala. (AP) - About 3,000 people attended a rally in favor of a tax that would provide some $75 million for schools in Baldwin County.

Parents, students and school backers marched through the town of
Foley on Sunday in support of a proposed 1 percent sales tax.

It's up for a countrywide vote on March 23.

State and local funding has declined more than $61 million in
the last two years, and school officials say without extra money
they will likely have to layoff teachers and cut programs.

Opponents argue that Baldwin County school officials are to blame for the problem because of mismanagement.

The proposed sales tax hike could raise about $25 million
annually for three years.
