Police in Ozark received a call early Friday morning after a resident discovered the body of a man in a wooded area.
A wiregrass resident walking his dog made the disturbing discovery around 7:30 a.m.
Police promptly responded to Peacock Parkway where about 50 yards from the road, Authorities found a dead black male; most likely in his mid to late 20's.
At this time, authorities do not suspect foul play, although they are working the scene as they would any homicide case.
Officials say that does not mean this particular case is a homicide; they just want to make sure all their bases are covered.
They say there are no signs of any trauma or injuries to the victim and that he was pretty much lying out in the open.
Ozark police believe the man died two or three days ago.
“In canvassing that wooded area we did find what appears to be a makeshift campsite so that leads us believe that this is where this person had been staying, he may have been homeless,” said Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey.
Police say they think they know who the man is, but they will not release that information until they get a positive identification.
The body is being transported to Montgomery where an autopsy and forensic science tests will be conducted on Monday.
If you have any information on this case, you're asked to call the Ozark Police Department at 774-2644.
