HANCEVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Residents of the Cullman County community of Hanceville have narrowly rejected legalizing liquor sales.
In the referendum on Tuesday, 575 voters chose keeping the city
dry and 547 voted in favor of legalized liquor sales.
A total of 1,122 ballots were cast, including 44 absentee votes.
Twenty-three provisional ballots still have not been tallied, a number not great enough to affect the outcome.
The wet/dry referendum was a first for the city under a new state law that allows smaller cities to hold votes on the issue.
