Florala Leaders Announce a new electronic bingo facility

Florala Mayor Robert Williamson had a press conference Monday announcing a possible electronic bingo development in the City of Florala.

The Florala Historical Society has submitted an application to the Covington County Sheriff Office, for a Bingo permit.

On the same day, the City of Florala submitted an application for a Bingo license including an application for a machine Bingo facilities.

The Florala Historical Society has entered into a development agreement with a unnamed gaming interested from Gulf Shores.

Developers have done a large amount of planning for the Florala area but an actual plan has not been submitted.

The mayor says the plans would include a full entertainment complex including a full service restaurant, a sandwich shop, retail, entertainment venue, and hotel.

They estimate when fully built, the facility could employ as many as 1,500 employees, with an average wage of $10 to $13 an hour.

The mayor say this project could return an estimate $10 million to Covington County on an annual basis.

If the Covington County Sheriff signs the permit, a temporary facility could be open within 45 days.

A number of residents showed up to the press conference to voice concerns.
