MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A state appeals court has decided that an admitted baby killer should get what he wants: a death sentence.

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals on Friday upheld the death sentence that Christopher Thomas Johnson of Atmore requested for the beating death of his six-month-old son in 2005.

In other capital murder cases, the court upheld the death sentences for Kim Vanpelt in Colbert County, Bobby Baker Jr. in Houston county, Larry Dunaway in Jefferson County, and Esaw Jackson in Jefferson County.

The appeals court ruled that an error occurred in the Lauderdale County trial of David Dwayne Riley Jr. That could lead the death row inmate to get a new trial for the robbery and killing of a package store clerk.
