Alabama court says fleeing man can't appeal
A state appeals court ruled a former Bullock County man can't appeal his convictions for assault and kidnapping because he fled before his sentencing and wasn't apprehended for nearly 13 years.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals ruled 5-0 Friday that Stan Dubose forfeited his right to appeal by fleeing and he "cannot profit from his total disrespect for the judicial process."

Dubose was convicted of second-degree assault and second-degree
kidnapping in Bullock County in December 1995.

Dubose said he was mistakenly released from jail before his sentencing, but county officials said he escaped. He was picked up in Florida in August 2008.

He was returned to Alabama and was sentenced to 15 years in
prison for assault and 40 years for kidnapping.
