MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that
a former Lawson State women's basketball player who was raped by an assistant coach on a road trip can't sue the community college or
school officials.
The justices upheld a lower court's summary judgment in a ruling
released Friday.
The victim, whose name has not been released, had filed suit
against the college, Lawson State President Perry Ward, athletic
director Eleanor Pitts and coach Aubrey Wiley.
She cited Title IX's protection against gender discrimination.
Former assistant coach Boris Andrico "Jolly" McCord was sentenced to life in prison for rape and sodomy convictions and 20 years in prison for sexual abuse in February 2006.
