OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) -- One Alabama city is throwing a Halloween party for four-legged ghosts and ghouls to raise money for a no-kill animal shelter.
The Opelika-Auburn News reports the annual Howl-o-Ween celebration includes a several activities for dogs including a parade, a costume contest and trick-or-treating.
Pam Powers-Smith of Opelika Main Street, the event's organizer, says some dog owners spend weeks putting together elaborate costumes for their pets. Maps handed out during the event point out
local merchants who are handing out treats for dogs.
Proceeds benefit the local nonprofit no-kill shelter Rescue K911.
