That testing has revealed several sites where there is some level of risk of swimmers getting a gastrointestinal illness or worse.
Persons who have been on antibiotics, medicines that suppress the immune system including many cancer drugs and persons with immune system deficiencies should avoid these waters.
These locations and approximate risk levels are:
Moderate Risk (Hurricane Creek had multiple samples above the single sample EPA limit and the geometric mean of five samples taken from June 7 to July 1 exceeded the EPA standard for multiple samples.
The source of contamination at this site is unknown at this time but there are potential human waste sources upstream):
Hurricane Creek near and upstream of its mouth at John Hutto Park in Newton Choctawhatchee River at and immediately downstream of the mouth of Hurricane Creek
Moderate to High Risk: (These sites on Little Choctawhatchee River at Hwy 123 and at Dale CR 121 or Old Power Dam Road also had multiple single samples and geometric means exceeding the EPA standards.
The risk to the public is higher at these sites because the sites, especially the Old Power Dam site, are used by more folks including young children suspected sources at these sites at this time are livestock.
