DOTHAN,AL---It's usually a playground but today it's an outside classroom.
Students spent the day learning about community safety and common ways to stay healthy.
"We think it's important every year to update children on these skills and lessons," said Faine Elementary Teacher Tiffany Philyaw.
Although it's a learning experience the kids describe it in one way.
"Activities and fun stuff," said First grader Braxton Fluellen.
Teachers say that's all intentional, "We don't just sit there and they get lectured it's a hands on entertaining kind of way to teach them."
Some of the outdoor lessons included, traffic and bicycle safety, boat safety, and fire and bus safety.
"I think it's important to do all of that because one day you might get in an accident,' said second grader Kimaiyah Gilbert.
And in case of an accident, they learned, "If you have any trouble call 9-1-1," said Fluellen.
Inside the students took a health tour and learned about personal hygiene, nutrition and good dental care.
"Brushing your teach is important because if you don't brush your teeth you could loose some," said Gilbert.
School officials say students can continue to look forward to the health fair each year.
The students also enjoyed a karate demonstration during lunch.
