A California company is recalling more than a ton of chopped red onions.
Gills Onions says the recalled onions were distributed to retailers in 14 states and Canada.
The company fears the onions could carry the listeria bacteria.
Listeria can cause high fevers and severe headaches and is potentially fatal.
All of the onions are past their "use by dates" of May 14th, 15th and 17th.
