Bay County — In celebration of World AIDS Day 2012, the Bay County Health Department will be conducting free HIV Tests in their clinic at 597 West 11th Street, Panama City, on Saturday, December 1, 2012, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. No appointment is necessary and tests will be conducted on a first come, first served basis. Confidential testing is available to anyone 13 years old or older. The Clearview Rapid test will be used which allows the results of the test to be available 15 minutes after the test starts.
In Florida, 1,005 people lost their lives to the disease in 2011. It is estimated that there are over 135,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in the State of Florida. Of that number, approximately 27,000, or 20%, do not know their status. Because of the way the disease works, it may be many years before any symptoms appear so the only way to truly know your status is to be tested. The few minutes you spend being tested could be a life saving experience!
