Dothan, AL - It's estimated that there are more than 25 million people with diabetes.
Thursday, the Dothan Civic Center was full of people learning to manage the disease at the 10th Annual Diabetes Workshop.
There were speakers, vendors and demonstrations about the newest tools and knowledge available to fight back against diabetes.
Experts say diabetes is a growing problem.
“The numbers are rising. We're seeing them increase every year. There's more than 25 million people have diabetes. Of that 7 million don't know they have it,” said Elizabeth Dean with the Houston County Health Department. “In 2009 it was estimated that over 9,000 people have it in houston county. We know that's increased, especially with obesity rates. It's just important to get the news out there.”
It wraps up at 2:30 Thursday afternoon.
The workshop was sponsored by the City of Dothan Department of Leisure Services, Alabama Department of Public Health, and Flowers Hospital.
