Cody Hayes is Remembered After His Battle With Cancer

An Ashford teen who fought leukemia for eight months is in the hearts of his loved ones.

Cody Hayes is remembered as a loving son and great friend. Many came out to pay tribute and respects to Cody Hayes. There were so many people there that there wasn't enough seating for everybody. Friends say they're sad to see him go but happy because he's not in pain anymore.

"He had a lot of fun, he was the life of the party, he was up and down the hall and he was out and about," said Todd Thorpe, the lead pastor at Watermark Church.

Although Hayes battled and fought cancer for several months his spirits were always up and encouraging.

"That's one thing that I admired about Cody was his fight," said Thorpe.

After being diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia in October 2013.The Ashford high student stayed positive. Friends and family remember and honor him for that.

"I think that cancer kind of brought some things into perspective in Cody's life. I think it brought things into perspective for you guys and I thought it brought perspective even now as you look at this casket," said Thorpe.

Many were saddened but it was all about celebrating the beloved teen. The service included a video tribute, remarks, music and prayers.

"He's in a brand new relationship called heaven, a brand new relationship. He's walking and there's no more cancer," said Thorpe.

There's also no more agony. Family and friends say they are smiling on the inside because they know Cody is in a better place.

"But he reached over and he grabbed my hand and I prayed over him and I told him you know what Cody I want you to continue to have a great attitude, I want you to continue to know that God loves you and somehow through this I want you to know that God has a plan and purpose for your life," said Thorpe

Friends of the family say Cody's parents will continue to fight against the disease in memory of their son.
