MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Six Alabama elementary schools will participate in a program this fall designed to test a way to fight obesity in children.
"The Wee Can Fight Obesity" project will be administered this fall at Montgomery's E.D. Nixon Elementary School, Winfield Elementary in Winfield, Epic Elementary in Birmingham, Dale Elementary in Bay Minette, Spring Garden Elementary in Piedmont and Kingston Elementary in Selma.
The program is being administered by Alabama State University, the Alabama Sports Festival and the Alabama Commission on Physical Fitness.
Alabama State officials said the project includes elementary school students playing a motion-based game during physical education class. There will be other physical activities and activities designed to teach the students about the risks of obesity.
