Bill with abortion measures passes House

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Gov. Charlie Crist will have the final say on a controversial health bill coming out of the Republican-led Legislature that includes some anti-abortion measures.

The House passed the measure (HB 1143) Friday on a 76-44 vote after four hours of emotionally charged debate. Democrats said it was little more than an attempt to persuade women they shouldn't have an abortion. The Senate passed the bill Thursday.

Democrats were particularly upset that the bill requires women to pay for expensive ultrasound exams even if they don't want to see the image. The only way a woman wanting an abortion could not see the image would be to provide a legal document that she had been raped or a victim of incest or domestic violence.
