WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says
including changes to student aid in the health care legislation is a bad idea.
McConnell says the government is running banks, insurance companies and car companies. He says now Democrats want to take over the student loan business.
He says it shows Democrats' desire to have the government "expand its tentacles into absolutely everything."
Under the measure, student loans would come directly from the government, instead of through banks and other private lenders who
charge a fee. President Barack Obama proposes taking the savings
and plowing them into higher Pell Grants for needy college students.
The White House says Obama will pitch his health care plan in Ohio next week and will delay his departure for an Asian trip later in the month.
