Two Wiregrass medical students received a financial boost toward their educations.
The Medical Group Management Association presented two $1,500 scholarships to Brandi Smith and Katrina Newman at the association's annual conference.
Both women are students at Wallace Community College and this is the first year the association awarded scholarships.
The group plans to make it an annual event.
Smith and Newman were chosen from a group of 35 applicants.
Dothan-Wiregrass MGMA President Cheri Kelly-Sherer said, “Because the medical group association is so involved in the medical community and the changes we face as we move forward we felt that it would be a good way to give back to the community by investing in some young people that are interested in pursuing their college career in the medical field.”
The Dothan-Wiregrass MGMA has 90 members.
