BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Pleasant Grove Elementary School teacher has earned the "biggest loser" designation - by shedding 55 pounds in less than four months to win a weight loss contest among Jefferson County school system teachers.
Paul Kelsey, a fourth-grade teacher, lost the weight during the county school system's "The Biggest Winner" competition, a version of the popular television show "The Biggest Loser."
Kelsey told The Birmingham News in a story Tuesday that he now
has more energy and that losing weight was the "icing on the cake."
The contest began Jan. 23 with an initial weigh-in and employees who joined were required to weigh in every two weeks until the contest ended May 7. In the end, 292 employees lost 2,889 pounds.
Athletics director Ken Storie said they plan to do the competition every year.
