Music and Stress

Whether we like country or classical, be-bop or hip-hop, music hits an emotional chord. Studies have shown not only can music calm the savage breast, but it can also help us with stress.

In a recent study conducted by researchers at the university of Maryland Medical Center, people who listened to their favorite tunes found their blood vessels actually opened wider, when doctors took images of their circulation system. This is good for our blood pressure, our heart rate, even our mental state.

Doctors recommend when enjoying music, vary the selections. If we listen to the same song over and over again, we'll lose the effect of the melody.
